Organization: Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry
Location: Dallas, Texas
Deadline: open
Description:
The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Baylor College of Dentistry(http://bcd.tamhsc.edu/education/biomedicalsciences.html), a component of the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Dallas, is seeking outstanding candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level. The Department is expanding its cadre of translational scientists to further bridge the gap between basic and clinical approaches in dental and craniofacial research. The Department is particularly interested in enhancing its well developed research programs in mineralized tissue biology, neuroscience, and craniofacial development. The Department expects to hire two new faculty by the fall semester 2010 and applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled.
Qualifications:
A PhD or DDS/PhD in bioengineering is preferred with background in one or more of the following areas: biomimetic scaffold design, nanostructured materials, stem cell mediated approaches to tissue regeneration, pharmacology, 3-D delivery systems, and drug release devices. Candidates must have an interest in applying these interests to dental and craniofacial research areas, such as nanobioengineering approaches for bone, tooth, and periodontium; biomimetic approaches to novel implant design; biological interfaces for delivery of therapeutics including TMJ therapeutics; and device design, optimization analysis, and modeling. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to establish an independent research program and to procure extramural funding. Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate the skills needed for the clinical translation of laboratory discoveries and the willingness to interface with clinical faculty. Partial funding for these positions is provided by a new P30 award from the NIDCR entitled Baylor’s Program for Bioengineering Sciences and Translational Research “B-BEST.” To fulfill the requirement of this program, candidates must not have previously held a tenure-track faculty position.
