PhD - Non-invasive vaccination - Leiden University (Netherlands)

Project Title :
Non-invasive vaccination via the skin surface by means of microneedles and microjets

Place :
University of Leiden, Netherlands

Salary :
€ 2042 per month in the first year to € 2612 per month in fourth year.

Requirements:
Master degree in biomedical sciences, biology or (bio) pharmaceutical sciences

Deadline:
19th July 2011

 Project Description :
The PhD Researcher will generate and characterize particulate polymer based antigen delivery systems and he/she will design coatings of microneedles with the antigen. To characterize the formulations and coatings you will use several analytical techniques, including dynamic light scattering, spectroscopic methods and protein assay. With his/her colleague PhD student at the Eindhoven University of Technology, he/she will study the interactions of microneedles and microjets with the skin using confocal laser scanning microscopy. He/she will investigate the effect of the delivery method and formulation on antigen presentation and induction/maintenance of specific immunity, using in-vitro and animal models. He/she will select the optimal combination of antigen-containing delivery system and delivery method to perform studies with relevant antigens.
