School of Human and Life Sciences
Roehampton's beautiful campus in south-west London is only 30 minutes from the centre of the city.
The University's ethos of social and environmental responsibility is complemented by a strong sense of community among its diverse student and staff population.
With a tradition of academic excellence that stretches back to the 1840s, Roehampton has become one of the leading modern universities for research.
The School of Human and Life Sciences is seeking to appoint a Reader/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Sport Engineering and Technology to join an active and enthusiastic team, which aspires to be recognised as an international academic centre of excellence in sport and exercise sciences. We are one of the most established departments in London, having taught undergraduate programmes since 1981 and postgraduate since 1996. We have an active programme of research with strong interests in physical activity, exercise and health, musculoskeletal biomechanics, environmental physiology, sport performance and psychological transition to high-level or professional sport. We have well-equipped laboratories, including a complete motion analysis system, various types of motions sensors, an environmental chamber and an ergospriometry system, and a highly qualified technical team to support the academic work of the successful candidate. In addition to teaching and research, the candidate will be expected to develop links with industrial partners in knowledge transfer activities, and to work with the team in developing and using innovative technologies in sport sciences.
They are open to applications from candidates from a wide range of engineering areas. Possible areas of expertise may include but are not limited to the research directions described above. As an interdisciplinary team, they also welcome applications from candidates whose work span across more than one discipline, for instance, sport engineering and health.
The successful applicant must have
• A PhD in Sport or Health Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related area, and be committed to pursuing high quality research with significant scientific and socio-economic impact
• An established track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Demonstrable ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to supervise research projects up to PhD level
• Previous industrial experience is welcomed, and chartered status with IMechE, IEEE or an appropriate professional body preferred
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
Candidates applying at the Senior Lecturer level will be accomplished scholars with successful records of grant applications. The title of Reader will be offered to an exceptional candidate for one of the three posts that we are currently advertising. In this case, the candidate must be able to demonstrate significant achievement in research and a high professional standing in the scientific community, and to contribute to the leadership and development of scholarly activities in the team.
The starting salary will be £35,858 for Lecturer, £39,933 for Senior Lecturer or £48,331 for Reader.
