Early-stage researcher in exhaust after-treatment simulation (Greece)

The Laboratory of Applied Thermodynamics of Aristotle University Thessaloniki (LAT/AUTh) is looking for an ESR (6-12 months) focusing on exhaust gas aftertreatment modeling. LAT/AUTh already possesses a platform of simulation tools capable of predicting the behavior of exhaust after-treatment devices under transient driving modes. The main task of the researcher will be to apply and possibly further develop these tools in real exhaust system design cases. Experimental data for model calibration and validation will be available via the experimental database of LAT/AUTh. A smaller part of the work will deal with experimental measurements in the fully-equipped engine and vehicle dyno of the lab. Special emphasis will be given in the direction of developing as simple and fast simulation models to be used in the vehicle concept design stage.

Researcher job in Applied Genoproteomics (Belgium)

The Unit of Animal Genomics (GIGA-Research, University of Liège, Belgium) has an opening for a research position to investigate genetic defects in pig populations.

The main qualifications are relevant experience and keen interest in genetic and statistical analysis methods as well as in database development. The educational status of the candidate can either be at the pre- or postdoctoral level.

The main responsibilities include:

• Development and adaptation of a user-friendly software package for genome- wide association studies in pig populations. The software package is expected to take into consideration various factors such as quality control of genotype data, population stratification, familial sub-structure, multilocus versus single locus analysis and the possibility to study binary as well as continuously distributed phenotypes.

• Development of a database which will host genotype data.

• Presentations to inform consortium partners about optimized data analysis procedures.

• Provide regular support for data analysis activities of consortium partners.

Funding for a full-time position is available for a duration of 12 months.

The School of Human and Life Sciences is seeking to appoint a Reader/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Sport Engineering and Technology to join an active and enthusiastic team, which aspires to be recognised as an international academic centre of excellence in sport and exercise sciences. We are one of the most established departments in London, having taught undergraduate programmes since 1981 and postgraduate since 1996. We have an active programme of research with strong interests in physical activity, exercise and health, musculoskeletal biomechanics, environmental physiology, sport performance and psychological transition to high-level or professional sport. We have well-equipped laboratories, including a complete motion analysis system, various types of motions sensors, an environmental chamber and an ergospriometry system, and a highly qualified technical team to support the academic work of the successful candidate. In addition to teaching and research, the candidate will be expected to develop links with industrial partners in knowledge transfer activities, and to work with the team in developing and using innovative technologies in sport sciences.

They are open to applications from candidates from a wide range of engineering areas. Possible areas of expertise may include but are not limited to the research directions described above. As an interdisciplinary team, they also welcome applications from candidates whose work span across more than one discipline, for instance, sport engineering and health.

The successful applicant must have

• A PhD in Sport or Health Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related area, and be committed to pursuing high quality research with significant scientific and socio-economic impact

• An established track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals

• Demonstrable ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to supervise research projects up to PhD level

• Previous industrial experience is welcomed, and chartered status with IMechE, IEEE or an appropriate professional body preferred

• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills

Candidates applying at the Senior Lecturer level will be accomplished scholars with successful records of grant applications. The title of Reader will be offered to an exceptional candidate for one of the three posts that we are currently advertising. In this case, the candidate must be able to demonstrate significant achievement in research and a high professional standing in the scientific community, and to contribute to the leadership and development of scholarly activities in the team.

The starting salary will be £35,858 for Lecturer, £39,933 for Senior Lecturer or £48,331 for Reader.

The role of the incumbent engineer would be to design and develop a prototype of the Electro-Mechanical, and Control Software components of an automated venipuncture medical device.
• Designs and develops new the venipuncture device, control software and instrumentation.
• Generates product models, concept layouts, and prints using a CAD software. Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing accordingly.
• Performs the required activities and generates the appropriate documents to ensure compliance with FDA Design Control regulations, and to support 510(k) submissions or IDE clinical studies.
• Develops mechanical test protocols according to ASTM standards and coordinates the activities required to fabricate test parts and complete mechanical testing

Assistant Professor in Bioinstrumentation Job in Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department, specializing in Biosignals and Bioinstrumentation. The Department delivers a growing undergraduate BME program with approximately 230 students. Over 50 graduate students enrolled in the Biomedical Engineering graduate program are pursuing MS, ME and PhD degrees. The department is conducting externally-funded research programs in the following areas: cellular and tissue engineering, biomechanics, biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, biosignal processing, physiological systems modeling or biomedical imaging.

WPI is building its strengths and capabilities in the life sciences and bioengineering and anticipates making multiple faculty hires across several disciplines to support this growth. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally-funded multidisciplinary research program, develop strong partnerships with regional medical device/biotechnology companies, and contribute to and help lead the BME Department’s central role in this effort. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in BME or a closely related field, experience in bioinstrumentation, sensors and biosignal analysis, and a commitment to excellence in both research and teaching.

The BME Department is housed in the recently completed WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park , a state-of-the art, mixed-use research facility dedicated to biomedical and life sciences research. The WPI BME Department also has extensive research relationships with the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University .

Located in central Massachusetts, Worcester is home to a dozen colleges united by the Colleges of Worcester Consortium , and over 100 biotechnology companies, including startup ventures as well as major pharmaceutical manufacturers. Worcester is also conveniently located along the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) within commuting distance of Boston, MA, Providence, RI, and Hartford, CT, and driving distance to New York City, NY.

Required Imaging software programmer


Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research is looking for a highly qualified and motivated Imaging software programmer for a period of 12 months to strengthen our Facility for advanced imaging and microscopy. In this role you will develop custom software solutions and/or extensions to commercial software and maintain an infrastructure for software developers and users. You will closely work with scientists on individual imaging projects and collaborate with other technology platforms and the informatics group to ensure the sound exchange of knowledge and software modules.

For this challenging position you will possess a degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biology with additional programming knowhow, mathematics, engineering or related discipline. Possessing an overview of imaging software in microscopy, basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology, microscopy and optics is also required. You will need to understand statistics, programming languages (like Matlab, C/C++, Java etc.), algorithms, data handling and analysis, and having experience in signal, image, video processing and mathematics.

This position is a hands-on role and demands an outgoing personality that can effectively discuss imaging projects with different users in a positive, service-oriented attitude. The ideal candidate is open to test new tools and software, and is both, able to work as a team member but also to work independently. The language in our institute in English.
