Faculty Position in Bioengineering Sciences at Texas

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Baylor College of Dentistry(http://bcd.tamhsc.edu/education/biomedicalsciences.html), a component of the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Dallas, is seeking outstanding candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level. The Department is expanding its cadre of translational scientists to further bridge the gap between basic and clinical approaches in dental and craniofacial research. The Department is particularly interested in enhancing its well developed research programs in mineralized tissue biology, neuroscience, and craniofacial development. The Department expects to hire two new faculty by the fall semester 2010 and applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled.

Qualifications:

A PhD or DDS/PhD in bioengineering is preferred with background in one or more of the following areas: biomimetic scaffold design, nanostructured materials, stem cell mediated approaches to tissue regeneration, pharmacology, 3-D delivery systems, and drug release devices. Candidates must have an interest in applying these interests to dental and craniofacial research areas, such as nanobioengineering approaches for bone, tooth, and periodontium; biomimetic approaches to novel implant design; biological interfaces for delivery of therapeutics including TMJ therapeutics; and device design, optimization analysis, and modeling. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to establish an independent research program and to procure extramural funding. Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate the skills needed for the clinical translation of laboratory discoveries and the willingness to interface with clinical faculty. Partial funding for these positions is provided by a new P30 award from the NIDCR entitled Baylor’s Program for Bioengineering Sciences and Translational Research “B-BEST.” To fulfill the requirement of this program, candidates must not have previously held a tenure-track faculty position.

Molecular Imaging Fellow - Atlanta

Emory University is accepting applications for a Molecular Imaging Research fellowship. The term of the fellowship may be for one year to two years, depending on the training objectives of the fellow. The fellow will spend 100% of his or her time dedicated to research and academic pursuits to advance molecular imaging in a vibrant teaching environment and an opportunity to work with advanced technology including dedicated PET-MR, high field strength MR, optical imaging devices, and a full nanotechnology infrastructure in cooperation with Georgia Institute of Technology. State of the art equipment also includes cyclotron and animal facilities and imaging devices. The successful MD level candidate will either have completed or is in good standing in an ACGME radiology residency or fellowship. Consideration will be given to those candidates who have a strong research background, such as MD-PhDs. The fellow will report to a thesis board composed of four mentors from the following areas: Optical Imaging and Phototherapy, MR, Nanotechnology and NanoMedicine and Nuclear Medicine. The selected fellow will plan and execute 1-2 research projects utilizing resources at Emory with the specific goal of bridging established clinical modalities such as PET and/or MR with emerging fields such as optical imaging and/or nanotechnology. The fellow will benefit from attending didactic lectures and seminars offered through the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the Division of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the Winship Cancer Institute, Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as other internal and external speakers.

Qualifications:

The successful MD or PhD level candidate will either have completed or is in good standing in a radiology residency or fellowship. Position Description:
The role of the incumbent engineer would be to design and develop a prototype of the Electro-Mechanical, and Control Software components of an automated venipuncture medical device.
• Designs and develops new the venipuncture device, control software and instrumentation.
• Generates product models, concept layouts, and prints using a CAD software. Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing accordingly.
• Performs the required activities and generates the appropriate documents to ensure compliance with FDA Design Control regulations, and to support 510(k) submissions or IDE clinical studies.
• Develops mechanical test protocols according to ASTM standards and coordinates the activities required to fabricate test parts and complete mechanical testing

Qualifications:
Requirements:
• Four to seven years experience in the design and development of medical devices. • Knowledge of CAD software (Solidworks, Pro-E, Medusa, AutoCad, Ideas, etc.).
• BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
• Prior project management experience preferred.
