Phd Molecular Medicine position in Luxemborg

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for the following vacancy in its Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC).

Doctoral candidate (PhD student) in the field of Molecular Medicine (M/F)
•Ref. F1R-LSC-PUL-12MIL6, Acronym:META-IL6
•Fixed-term contract 3 years, full-time (40 hrs/week)
•Student and employee status


The PhD student will be a member of the LSRU research unit (Life Sciences Research Unit) within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC) at the University of Luxembourg. He/she will work under supervision of Dr. Claude Haan and Prof. Dr. Iris Behrmann. The project is a collaboration with project partners at the LCSB (Luxembourg Center of Systems Biomedicine) and the CRP-Santé (Centre de Recherche Public).

Your Role
•The PhD student will investigate cellular metabolic responses to inflammatory cytokines and hypoxia, both of which are crucial players in inflammation and cancer. Molecular biology, metabolomic and transcriptomic approaches will be used.
•The data will be integrated into a model that will lead to a systems level picture of inflammatory processes in liver cancer.
•Validation of the model and identification of possible targets in inflammatory liver disease and cancer are major aims of the study.
•Participate in seminars within the Research Unit and doctoral school,
•Write a thesis and research papers,
•Work interdisciplinary with the cooperation partners.
Your profile
•Master degree in either Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Systems Biology with outstanding grades,
•Solid background in at least one of the following areas: molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics,
•Proficient knowledge in English is mandatory. Knowledge in German or French is an advantage.
