PhD in Biosciences - Finland

The University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio Campus, invites applications for a PhD student/ researcher position for a period of up to four years beginning on January 1, 2012.

The position belongs to the Tekes-funded FiDiPro project “Development of bioaerosol testing facility - Application for modelling and controlling of indoor air”. The duties include experiments on microbial growth on different materials, release of microorganisms into the air, and production of bioaerosols for chamber experiments. The position will be placed in the Department of Environmental Science, the Research Group for Indoor Environment and Occupational Health.  Some of the experiments will be conducted in Tampere at the Technical Research Center of Finland and in the University of Cincinnati, USA. The person appointed will be eligible to join the Graduate School of Environmental Health (SYTYKE).

Successful applicants will hold a graduate degree (e.g., in the field of biosciences, environmental science or microbiology). The applicant should show interest in and commitment to research work, ability to efficiently work as a team member, proficiency in English language, and good written and oral communication skills. Prior experience in microbiology, aerosol and bioaerosol measurements, and/or laboratory work will be regarded as merits.  The salary of the position is placed between levels 1 and 4 in the job requirement level chart of the teaching and research staff in the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary is comprised of a job requirement component and a personal performance component.
