Phd position - Live Cell Imaging (Finland)

A position is now available for a highly motivated cell and/or molecular biologist at either recently-graduated postdoctoral or graduate student level to join an international team investigating cellular signalling mechanisms in disease and degeneration. Our lab is particularly interested in upstream mechanisms regulating stress-activated MAP kinases in degenerative processes. The task of the successful applicant is to optimise and apply light-regulatable scaffolds we have developed to manipulate intracellular signalling.

Live-cell imaging and automation platforms including HCA, TIRF and laser scanning confocal microscopes (www.uef.fi/aivi/muic) will be used in the project, which will be carried out at the A.I. Virtanen Institute, Biocentre Kuopio, set in the Finnish lake district. Applicants with experience in at least some of the following areas will be considered until the position is filled: cell signalling, plasmid manipulation, neuronal cell and tissue culture systems, live-cell imaging, laboratory automation platforms. Further details about the lab can be found via http://www.uef.fi/aivi/neuro/signalling and about associated facilities at www.uef.fi/aivi/muic

The position is available immediately until 31 December 2013. Post-doctoral and early stage researcher salaries are placed on levels 5 and 2 of the job requirement level chart for teachers and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities.
